Glen

My name is Glen. I’m a teacher by profession and I’ve been teaching for about 20 years. I’m also a videographer, and I’m a consumer. I first became an evaluator for Bare in 2011. I used to evaluate a lot of gas stations, convenience stores, fast food outlets, and supermarkets in South Africa. Now I’m based in Thailand and tend to evaluate a lot of hotels. I absolutely love my work for three reasons:

Firstly, from a consumer’s point of view, I feel extremely strongly about good service. I believe that as consumers we pay a lot of money for goods and services. We should never get less than what we pay for. So, what does this mean? It means that we shouldn’t get less barbeque sauce on a standard hamburger, cold French fries, unfriendly service, be kept waiting longer than promised, treated with disrespect, and so on. I’m a Bare evaluator because I want to make sure that consumers get what we pay for. It feels like I’m making a difference.

Secondly, from a company’s point of view… I believe that many companies spend a lot of money trying to get new customers. These companies don’t want their customers to go to their competitors because there was a problem. I’m a Bare evaluator because I want to help companies keep their customers. I want to help companies grow and be better suppliers of goods and services to us, the consumers.

Thirdly, I’ve always wanted to be a private investigator. And my work with Bare feels pretty much like I’m doing that. So, in a way, Bare is fulfilling me dream.

There are some great perks being a Bare evaluator.  It opens your eyes to what companies expect of their employees, and thus, it makes you aware of how good the service you’re getting really should be. It also exposes you to things that you might usually not have a lot access too, like fine dining, up-market establishments, and some free products or services.

Being a Bare evaluator is a responsible job. I think it takes a special kind of person. Honesty is a must. It is crucial that I am completely honest and unbiased in my reporting. Companies might need to make changes based on my report, employees might be reprimanded or even lose their jobs. I need to keep my feelings aside and simply report the facts – this is harder than what it sounds like. I need to look at each visit on its own and completely disregards anything that might have happened at the same venue before during previous visits. I need fit in with my surroundings – meaning that I need to fit the part whether I visit a toy store or dine in a 5-star hotel.

I love what I do because I know I’m doing my part to make our world a better place.

Henry
